Whereas I usually prefer “light circle” cursor, sometimes the brush is one that, even though it produces a very fine point most of the time, the circle is rather disproportional, as it “refers” perhaps to its potential full size, which can be something that is seldom used in a given brush.
For those, the crosshair is much handier, providing an immediate notion of where the pixels will “land”, rather than “in the middle of this big circle.”
An alternative could be having “both at once” in a way, a circle that follows the brush size, but with a crosshair within it, as an additional cursor option. Maybe even just a dot.
